Erik Carlson

I am from Geneseo IL.  My home track is Cordova.  I got the racing bug from my dad even though I didn't see him much when growing up.  We see each other all the time now and I always wanted to race just like him!!.  I am 32 and I have been racing since I was 15.  I currently have a ton of projects but my main cars are my 55 straight axle Chevy.  I am putting together a top sportsman 62 bubbletop that will eventually have a blown 540 in it.  I have always dug the nose high gassers especially the 55-57 Chevys.  I built my self one two years ago and boy is it a ball!! Its an old gasser from St Louis but was not a straight axle car.  I pride myself on the fact that I built this thing without much help from anyone just to see if I could do it.  It has a used tube front axle with Chevy spindles and mustang II disc brakes, the rear is an Olds with ladderbars and coil-overs.  I had the long ladder bars and leafs but it was just too inconsistent.  The motor is a 440" Rat with LS-7 heads, Manley rods, J and E pistons, and a Crower 8 stack injection.  The trans is either a G-Force clutch assisted five speed or an old Doug Nash, which ever one is not broken!!...The body is rough and has an OLD glass nose and a set of glass doors.  The green windows are original to the car as is the front end.  Wheels are a no-name set of 5 spokes up front and a set of 9" wide real mag Americans out back.  So far it has run a best of 9.91 at 135 MPH !!  which is a real handful but also REAL FUN!!. I hope to make some races next year in between running the 62 and have some more fun.
